ARC KAYAKING CLASSES The Adventure River Center
proudly offers several courses designed to teach a variety of kayaking skills.
Our Introduction class is perfect for those wanting to try kayaking for the
first time. Our Development course offers instruction to those wishing to
improve on beginning skills. And, our Advanced workshops are geared to folks
ready to take their kayaking to beyond intermediate levels. All of our
courses are taught by experienced and friendly certified instructors.
We hope you join us for a class or two!
INTRODUCTION TO
KAYAKING
This two-day class, two-night class is a great way to learn the basics of
kayaking. We begin with an evening of pool-based lessons, learning the roll and
rescue components of paddling. The next morning we continue with roll
instruction and add basic stroke concepts, before heading out to a quiet
stretch of river. Here paddle strokes, rescue and roll techniques are again
presented and practiced, along with bracing and basic kayak handling. At the
end of this day we paddle down river through moving water. This
evening in a class setting we present information relative to reading rivers
and maneuvering kayaks through whitewater. The second day we first head for a
mild stretch of river to practice eddy turns, ferrying and other basic skills.
Then, this afternoon we tackle mild rapids and apply all that has been
learned!
KAYAK SKILLS
DEVELOPMENT
This two-day course is designed for those who have successfully completed the
Introduction to Kayaking course or those who have basic roll and paddling
skills. This class takes paddling skills to the next level and takes place
entirely on the river. Intermediate skills such as surfing, advanced eddy
turns, and paddling efficiency are presented each day as we run class II and
II+ sections of the river. The goal of this course is to improve skills and
confidence needed to run class II and III rivers on your own.
ADVANCED PADDLING
WORKSHOPS
For those seeking additional instruction beyond basic and intermediate skills
we offer custom, private lessons. Please contact our office for details.
